11 Departments Battle Fire At Pallet Factory

Huntington Manor Fire Department called in help from 10 area departments to battle a raging fire at a pallet manufacturing facility in Huntington Station on Saturday night.

The fire, fueled by wood pallets, burned 12 hours before it was declared under control. It destroyed the building at at 191 E. 2nd Street that housed Four Way Pallet manufacturing company.

“We watched it burn to the ground for the past 12 hours,” Rachel Marx, the daughter of one of the factory’s owners wrote on social media the day after the blaze. “Thank you to all fire departments who were at the scene and a big thank you to the Huntington Manor Fire Department who finished the job.”

Firefighters were hampered by the intensity of the blaze, the tight spaces between buildings and partial roof collapses, Huntington Manor 2nd Assistant Chief Scott Cloonan said in a News 12 report.

The industrial property is adjacent to the LIRR tracks near the Huntington Station. The fire, which started at about 1:30 a.m. , caused train service to be temporarily suspended between Port Jefferson and Huntington Station.

Fire trucks are still on the scene the morning after a fire at Four Way Pallet in Huntington Station. Firefighters battled a blaze fueled by wood pallets for 12 hours.
